Custard Apple (not an apple)

Custard apples are an unusual fruit.  They’re a real treat – juicy, aromatic, and fantastically sweet when perfectly ripe. The mellow, creamy flesh really does have a hint of custard about it. To test for ripeness, squeeze gently, and if they give slightly (like an avocado), they’re ready to enjoy. Prepare by cutting in half, discarding the seeds (don’t eat them), and scooping out the flesh with a spoon.
